Despite their cute and cuddly appearance, American pikas are resilient creatures, counted among North America's hardiest. In the lower 48 states, pikas stand out as one of the few mammals capable of enduring their entire lives in the challenging alpine terrain. They possess compact bodies with prominent, round ears. And they are among my favorite creatures I've encountered in Glacier National Park, Montana.
